But what about popped corn?

I saw the trailer for Avatar today. (not the one based off the cartoon) This is why I don't go to movies anymore.
I only saw the trailer, but I saw enough to know that the concept of the movies is fucking cliched as hell. Guy goes undercover on the enemie's side and falls in love with the girl he meets there and fight's for their cause, because it turns out he was the bad guy in this situation. Only in this movie, all the protagonists are cgi blue cat people. (living in harmony with nature of course) Honestly, prosthetics and make-up are much more convincing in a movie than pure cgi, especially if half the characters in the movie are going to be real people.
It also suffers from the same problem District 9 had; if you're going to make a movie with some sort of message about generally being a good person and not dicking other people over, or a statement on how people are assholes, use actual people that others can identify with. Even if blue cat people are more human-looking than prawns, you're still going to get whatever message across better when people can identify with the protagonists.

Orchid time
Nov. 11th, 2009 | 11:54 pm
I haven't updated about my orchid tank in a while, mostly because there hasn't been much change since the last one. The Phalaenopsis grew a couple buds, but they're starting to turn yellow, and I don't think that they'll bloom. Hopefully the plant will live though.
I went to the store to get some fertilizer, and maybe a new orchid. The owner ended up giving me 2 orchids and a plant called a signature tree, because marks left in the leaves will turn white and stay for years. I also bought another orchid.

Alright, had my first day of work today. Not bad, not too busy, and much better than the options I was looking at.
My computer there actually has internet access. But I really don't know any sites I would be comfortable browsing, except maybe for a few games on Kongregate. Any suggestions for work safe games or sites? I seem to recall one where you build a city or something.
P.S. it is now the worst day of the year

Got a couple new plants today. A Ficus to use as a bonsai, and an epiphyte called a Tillandsia, which I rigged up with a peice of copper wire.
The phalaenopsis is really growing well, or at least the flower spike is. Right now there are 3 buds, and a new branch is growing from the spike. Milton seems to be doing okay, so hopefully he's growing new roots. The Ludisia is mostly growing up towards the light source.

The CD drive on my computer broke. Again. Except this time it's not under warranty, so I have no way to fix it. Luckily I really don't use it much, but I'm going to have to wait until I get a new comp to put any songs on CDs on my mp3 player.

In light of that fuck getting arrested, I went on IMDB to see what he's worked on. And I can honestly say I've never seen anything he's even been involved in. Which makes me happy, because I don't have have to feel bad about liking something that rapist made.
In orchid news, the Phalaenopsis has apparently decided it likes its current environment, because its growing a new flower spike, as well as developing the preexisting one. I guess the leaves are in good enough condition and enough root is left for it to survive and grow, so I'm not going to mess with it for now.
Milton doesn't seem to be getting any worse, so for now I'm not going to mess with the roots. I don't want to accidentally cut off healthy ones, and it'll be really unstable in the pot if I remove them. I put some of the millipedes from the Ludisia into the pot, in the hope that they'll eat the dead roots. The Ludisia continues to grow leaves at a steady rate, although they're the same leaves that it was growing when I bought it.

Damn house centipedes. I know they're harmless, but they freak me out. And I just had one an inch long running through the house. Of course I hate killing bugs just because they're in the house, so I do my best to catch them and release them outside. I hope that guy can make it okay missing ~4 legs.
Did you know their defense mechanism is to drop their legs off when they're caught, and then the legs spasmatically twitch while it gets away? Because I just found that out.
( cut so you don't have to look at bugs if you don't want to )

Has anyone been paying attention to the subject titles? I've been trying to make them funny, if not always relevant to the topic. (bonus points for anyone who knows what I'm quoting for each one*)

I switched the pots of Milton and the Phalaenopsis. The pot Milton was in was too small. I got a picture today when I did it; I'm not sure which of Milton's roots were good or bad, if any. They did seem dry and somewhat brittle. There really didn't seem to be any firmness to them. But I don't want to think nearly the entire root system is bad.

bonus point not redeemable in any way, shape, or form for any service or goods

There's a flying squirrel on the neighbor's house. Nearly 24 years living in flying squirrel habitat, and this is the first time I've seen one. And what's best is he's just sitting there. I got to within about 5 feet of him and he didn't run.
I got a picture of him, but I'll have to post that tomorrow, since I don't have the connector to hook my phone up to the laptop.
( Just gonna put this here )

I got 5000 achievement points for the 360 this morning. I know that they don't do anything, and I don't even have people to compare my scores to, but for some reason I like the achievement system. I think getting 5000+ points out of nine games isn't too bad, either. I'd have a lot more if I had people to play guitar hero with, so I could get the duo achievements. Also, right now I have 110,000 cash in world tour (averaging about 300-400 a song) and it only took me 9 months. At this rate I'll get the 1,000,000 cash achievement in 7 years. :|
I got a somewhat sick phalaenopsis orchid from Kroger for cheap the other day. It has a flower spike that hasn't fully developed, but the leaves are so droopy that I doubt it will finish growing anytime soon. Right now it's in some weird bleached moss substrate, but I need to check to see if it would do better in bark.
Milton's leaves have stopped turning black and yellow, and the black spots on the leaves that were already there are spreading very slowly now. I'm hesitant to take him out of the pot to trim the roots, as it was a pain to get him in there, and he seems to be reacting well. The Ludisia is still growing leaves at a steady rate. I may take out some of the millipedes, and just leave a couple small ones in to eat what ever is dead. I may put a couple in Milton's pot so they can take care of dead roots.

Is chat dead? (sf_d chat). Looking at it right now, it's just me, Neph, and Stiva, and then the newer people who I don't know or care about. No one even on with full ops. I know they made another one, but apparently I've been banned from userdrama. No idea why that happened. Does someone who's been on more know more about this than I do?
Orchid Update:
Got a terracotta pot from the store today. Going home to repot Milton in a little bit. He's really not doing well with all the water I gave him.
The centipede (confirmed centipedes now) colony is larger than I thought. I turned the light on last night and counted six of them. According to the owner of the greenhouse, they aren't going to snack on the roots, so for now they can stay. I've been feeding them a few moths to discourage them from eating the roots just in case.

Hush, boy! This story must be told!

Got back from visiting
sykoryoko yesterday. :3 We watched a bunch of Nougami Neuro and played video games, mostly. Also whoever cleaned the place before she moved in didn't do a very good job because the oven smelled like pee when we turned it. Peezza makes a better pun when you can spell it out. Ko will have to post some excerpts from the dating handbook I modified into a Jub handbook, since I left it there.
The orchids I got are doing well. The tank is set up with the smallest undertank heater I could buy. The humidity has been hovering between 65 and 75. The Ludisia only has three stalks and only grows one leaf at a time on each, so I've been able to see its growth pretty easily, and so far it seems to be doing well. The Miltoniopsis has a whole bunch of leaves, so I can't really tell if it's growing or not, but it does seem like it is. I noticed today that the Ludisia apparently has a colony of centipedes in its pot. I'm not sure if they'll be a problem or not.

Hyperform where are you
Sep. 5th, 2009 | 05:12 pm
I got some orchids today. A Miltoniopsis roezlii 'Maui' x Pearl Ono 'Red' hybrid, and a black jewel orchid (Ludisia discolor). They didn't have any flowers, so I got both for less than $10. The Miltoniopsis looks like it might start to grow flowers soon. Gonna try and get part of the terrarium set up tonight.
Hyperform, any special treatment you happen to know about either of these?
Oh, they had a Darth Vader orchid (not kidding) at the store, but it was flowering, so it was like $30. Otherwise I would have gotten that.

Been applying to a few places, and a few more job openings I'm interested popped up today as well. Now if I could just get a call back I would be ecstatic.
I'm applied to pittsburgh a couple days ago. And it occurred to me today that pittsburgh is like, the furry mecca. So while I would never actually go to Anthrocon, (that whole costume phobia) I could meet up with people that go to it, which would be cool. So here's hoping they call me back.
